[Aug 8 2013, 5:17 PM] Paul Oh: The Lowdown blog: http://blogs.kqed.org/lowdown/category/gun-violence/
[Aug 8 2013, 5:17 PM] PeggyGeorge: nice chat log 🙂
[Aug 8 2013, 5:17 PM] grammasheri: Do Paul Allison and Chris use this in YouthVoices.net ?
[Aug 8 2013, 5:17 PM] PeggyGeorge: no they use Titanpad
[Aug 8 2013, 5:18 PM] ElyseEA: Good question – but the work that students do on issues certainly can turn into writing they post on Youth Voices over time.
[Aug 8 2013, 5:18 PM] grammasheri: Yes. I mean Do Now — is that used as a mission on youthvoices?
[Aug 8 2013, 5:18 PM] PeggyGeorge: oh sorry. not sure about the mission
[Aug 8 2013, 5:19 PM] ElyseEA: Oh, I see. As a mission…hmmm…I don’t think so. Maybe Chris will pick up the question when he gets a chance.
[Aug 8 2013, 5:19 PM] grammasheri: What a great example here from Chris
[Aug 8 2013, 5:20 PM] grammasheri: Law enforcement don’t always like video interviews for many reasons.
[Aug 8 2013, 5:20 PM] Paul Oh: Soundcloud audio interview: https://soundcloud.com/absmcgill11-1/gun-control-abbie-jackie
[Aug 8 2013, 5:21 PM] ElyseEA: Can’t you just imagine how great it must be to be in his class?
[Aug 8 2013, 5:21 PM] PeggyGeorge: I would LOVE to be in his class!
[Aug 8 2013, 5:21 PM] Janelle Quintans Bence: What a great opportunity for adult interaction in education as well!
[Aug 8 2013, 5:22 PM] grammasheri: Agree. His class must be completely engaged and engaging.
[Aug 8 2013, 5:22 PM] ElyseEA: Good point, Janelle. And how important for law enforcement to meet a range of young people and have diverse interactions with them.
[Aug 8 2013, 5:22 PM] Janelle Quintans Bence: What talented learners!!
[Aug 8 2013, 5:23 PM] Paul Oh: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXXS0kN7G6M Student’s video of survey results with peers
[Aug 8 2013, 5:23 PM] grammasheri: I wonder if Chris has this model lesson for Do Now bundled somewhere in a blog — maybe DigitalIs ?
[Aug 8 2013, 5:23 PM] PeggyGeorge: thanks for adding those links Paul!
[Aug 8 2013, 5:24 PM] ElyseEA: The team is building a range of resources. They’ll probably get to that in the webinar.
[Aug 8 2013, 5:24 PM] Janelle Quintans Bence: I appreciate the ability to comment. These were also learning opportunities for my learners.
[Aug 8 2013, 5:24 PM] Paul Oh: Sure thing, Peggy. I’m working the webinar behind the scenes today. 🙂
[Aug 8 2013, 5:24 PM] PeggyGeorge: huge help!! 🙂
[Aug 8 2013, 5:25 PM] ElyseEA: The public discourse issue is significant and an important learning opportunity. We’ve been thinking about this as the ‘digital afterlife’ of a published piece.
[Aug 8 2013, 5:25 PM] grammasheri: Janelle, that is true — comments on Youtube are examples of the good, bad, and ugly.
[Aug 8 2013, 5:25 PM] PeggyGeorge: that is such a good point about the comments on YouTube. Those comments can be pretty raunchy but they need to learn how to deal with them and you lose out on valuable interaction if you block comments.
[Aug 8 2013, 5:25 PM] Paul Oh: To respond to the question about Chris’ lesson – the NWP worked with the Lowdown blog to create an educator guide related to gun control here: http://blogs.kqed.org/lowdown/category/gun-violence//
[Aug 8 2013, 5:26 PM] Paul Oh: Do Now #78: Fast Fashion: http://education.kqed.org/edspace/2013/05/03/do-now-78-fast-fashion-at-a-high-cost/

[Aug 8 2013, 5:28 PM] ElyseEA: There’s the connection to Youth Voices — 🙂
[Aug 8 2013, 5:28 PM] Janelle Quintans Bence: I love that transition!!! More traditional to media!!

[Aug 8 2013, 5:37 PM] Paul Oh: I let Janelle know you had that question, Sheri.
[Aug 8 2013, 5:37 PM] csloan: I like how Janelle does all the different kinds of background work before the public posts by the students. Sometimes it’s good to jump right into the fray, other times it’s better to wait until they’re more informed
[Aug 8 2013, 5:37 PM] grammasheri: Do Now is so organized with so much to allow for “diverse teaching activities”
[Aug 8 2013, 5:37 PM] ElyseEA: The range of materials on the Low Down also provide interesting mentor texts: infographics, videos, articles, etc.
[Aug 8 2013, 5:37 PM] Paul Oh: “Both Sides of Immigration” video: http://youtu.be/5F5FsQ4iwrs
